If your business is in the UK, you can choose from several types of number, depending on the impression you want to give and how customers will reach you:
  • Local: a normal number with an area code, like an 01 or 02 number. Best if you want to look like the local business you are.
  • Mobile: an 07 mobile number, familiar and easy for customers to call or text.
  • Mobile Inbound Only: a mobile number that only takes incoming calls.
  • Freephone: free for customers to call (like 0800), with the cost on you. Good for looking established across the whole country.
  • National: a non-geographic number (like 03) that isn’t tied to an area, and isn’t free for the caller either.

Choosing one

  1. Start adding a number. Under Settings, then Phone numbers, click Add a new number.
  2. Pick United Kingdom, then the type. Choose the type you want from the list above.
  3. Pick a number. Choose from what’s available and finish naming the inbox. See the Overview for the full walkthrough.
A UK business can also buy US and Canadian numbers. But remember you can call the US and Canada and only text the UK. See Texting other countries.
