A local number is a normal number with an area code, the kind your customers are used to seeing. If you work a particular area, a local number makes you look like the local business you are, and people are often more likely to answer a number they recognise over one that looks like a call centre. You can get local numbers in the UK, the US, and Canada.

Choosing one

  1. Start adding a number. Under Settings, then Phone numbers, click Add a new number.
  2. Pick the country, then Local. Choose your country, then pick Local as the number type.
  3. Search your area. Use the Search by area code or city box to find a number that fits the area you cover, then pick one you like.
For the rest of the setup, naming the inbox and confirming the price, see the Overview.

Inbound-only numbers

Depending on the country, you may also see an Inbound Only version of a number offered as its own type:
  • In the US, there is Local Inbound Only.
  • In the UK, there is Mobile Inbound Only, which is a mobile number rather than a local one. See UK numbers.
Needs checking: confirm in plain words what “Inbound Only” means for the customer, the app doesn’t spell it out. The name suggests the number can receive calls but not make them.
