Texting in Dialbird works just like texting on your phone, with a few extras that make it easier when the messages are about work. This page walks you through sending a text, adding photos and files, and getting around a conversation.
Sending a text
To reply in a conversation you already have open, type in the box at the bottom and press Enter.
If you want a new line instead of sending, press Shift + Enter.
To start a brand new conversation, pick the inbox you want to text from, then type the number into the To: box. You can give the person a name at the same time, and Dialbird saves them as a contact so you do not have to enter it again. You can also click Select and choose a saved contact instead of typing the number.
Sending photos and files
Click the paperclip to attach something. You can pick more than one file at a time, and they upload when you hit send.
Dialbird accepts photos, videos, PDFs, Word documents, spreadsheets, PowerPoints, and plain text files, so a photo of the job or a quote as a PDF both work.
The paperclip menu also has Share contact, which sends someone’s details across as a contact card.
Voice notes
Click the microphone to record a voice note and send it. This is handy when your hands are dirty and typing is not happening.
Emoji and saved replies
- Click the smiley to add an emoji to what you are typing.
- Click the / button, or just type / in the message box, to bring up your saved replies. See Snippets.
Reacting to a message
Hover over any message to bring up the reaction bar. There are six quick reactions, 👍 😊 ❤️ 😂 🎉 🤔, and a smiley button that opens the full emoji picker if you want something else. Tap a reaction again to take it back. Reactions from you and your teammates both show under the message.
Copying, deleting, and searching
- Right-click a message to Copy text or Delete it. Deleting asks you to confirm first, and it cannot be undone.
- Use the magnifying glass in the header to search inside a conversation. It shows how many results it found as you type.
Notes only your team can see
Sometimes you need to talk something over before you reply. Hover a message and click the comment button to start a private thread on it. Your team can chat there and @mention each other, then mark it Resolved when it is done.
The customer never sees any of it. It is good for “did we ever quote this one?” without accidentally texting that to the customer. A small lock note on the thread reminds you it is workspace-only.
Tidying your inbox
At the top of your chat list you can filter by Open, Closed, Unread, and Broadcast. Pinned chats always sort to the top.
Open a chat and use the ⋯ menu in the header for the rest:
- Mark as closed or Reopen conversation
- Mark as read or Mark as unread
- Pin or Unpin the conversation
- Block the contact (this stops their calls and texts; you can unblock later)
- Delete conversation (permanent, and it asks you to confirm)
The Broadcast filter hides things. When it is switched off, chats created by a broadcast do not appear in your normal list at all. If a text seems to have vanished, check that filter.
