Starting a chat
Your colleagues are listed under Your Team in the sidebar. Click a name to open a direct message with that person. To start a fresh chat, or to message a few people at once:- Open a new chat. Start a New Chat from the team area.
- Pick who to include. Search your team with Search team members… and tick the people you want.
- Start it. Click Start Chat. Pick one person and you get a direct message. Pick two or more and Dialbird sets up a group chat, named after the first people in it.
Sending a message
Type in the Write a message… box and press Enter to send. Press Shift + Enter if you want a new line without sending. Alongside plain messages, you can:- Add an emoji from the smiley icon.
- Record a voice message with the microphone, handy when it is quicker to say than type.
- Attach a file with the paperclip: photos, videos, PDFs, documents, spreadsheets, and presentations all work.
Managing a chat
- Search a chat. Use the search icon at the top of a chat to find an old message.
- More options. The three-dot menu lets you mark a chat as read or unread, pin it to keep it handy, or delete it.
Huddles
When a message thread isn’t quick enough, start a huddle: a live audio call with the people in that chat, right there in Dialbird. It is voice only, not video, so it is made for a fast catch-up rather than a formal meeting.- Open the chat you want to talk in.
- Start the huddle. Click the huddle button at the top of the chat.
- They get a shout. Everyone else in that chat sees an Incoming Huddle card telling them you want to start a huddle, which they can Join or Decline.
- Mute and unmute yourself.
- Add someone. Search your team and pick colleagues to pull into the call.
- See who’s in. Expand the bar to view everyone on the huddle.
- Leave when you are done.
Huddles are for your team talking to each other. To call a customer, use the phone button in their conversation instead, which places a real phone call.
You can only be in one huddle at a time, and only teammates in that chat can be pulled into it.Huddles are not included on the Pro plan. If you are on Pro and try to start one, Dialbird shows an upgrade prompt.Needs checking: confirm the exact plan name huddles are included on, in plain words.
