A toll-free number (called Freephone in the UK) is free for your customers to ring, because you pick up the cost instead of them. They tend to look established and national rather than tied to one town, which can be handy if you cover a wide area or want to look bigger than a single-location business.

Where you can get them

  • US and Canada: Toll-Free numbers.
  • UK: Freephone numbers, and also National numbers (like 03 numbers), which aren’t free for the caller but aren’t tied to an area either.

Choosing one

  1. Start adding a number. Under Settings, then Phone numbers, click Add a new number.
  2. Pick the country and type. Choose your country, then pick the matching type: Toll-Free in the US or Canada, or Freephone or National in the UK.
  3. Pick a number. Choose from the numbers available and finish setting up the inbox. See the Overview for the full walkthrough.
In the US, a toll-free number needs extra registration before it can send texts. See Toll-free registration.
