Once you’ve submitted a port, it takes a little while to complete, because the two phone companies have to hand the number over between them. There’s nothing you need to do while that happens.

Your number keeps working

While you’re waiting, your number keeps working where it is now. It only switches over to Dialbird once the port finishes, so you carry on taking calls on it as normal in the meantime. There’s no window where the number goes dead.

What to expect

  • You don’t have to chase it. Once you’ve submitted the form, the Dialbird team handles the handover with your current provider.
  • Don’t cancel your current service until the number is live in Dialbird. Cancelling early can stop the port and put the number at risk.
  • If something’s needed from you, such as a detail that didn’t match your provider’s records, you may be asked to confirm it before the port can go ahead.
Needs checking: confirm how a customer checks the progress of a port, whether there’s a status shown in the app, or whether they’re updated by email, and roughly how long a port takes. Add the real detail here.

Once it’s done

When the port completes, the number switches over and starts ringing in Dialbird. You’ll find it in your sidebar under Inboxes, ready to make and take calls and texts like any other Dialbird number. Need a hand at any point? See Submit a request or Chat with us.
