Dialbird makes calls over the internet, and a VPN or a strict office network can sometimes get in the way of that. If your calls won’t connect or the sound is poor, it’s worth ruling the network out before you look anywhere else.

Try turning the VPN off

If you’re on a VPN, turn it off for a moment and make the call again. If that fixes it, the VPN was the problem. Some VPNs route your calls the long way round or block the type of traffic calls use, which shows up as calls that won’t connect or that sound rough. If you need the VPN on for other work, ask whoever set it up whether Dialbird’s calling traffic can be allowed to skip it.

On a company or office network

Strict work networks and firewalls can block calls in the same way a VPN can. If Dialbird works fine at home but not in the office, that’s the tell-tale sign. On a company network, your IT person may need to let Dialbird’s calling through. If you’re not sure who that is, get in touch and we’ll help you work out what to ask for.
Needs checking: if there are specific network ports or addresses that IT teams need to allow for Dialbird calls to work, add them here so customers can pass them to their IT support.
