# Shared inboxes

> Let more than one person look after the same number, so calls and texts always get answered.

A single number can be shared by your whole team, so whoever is free can pick up the calls and texts. Everyone with access sees the same conversations, replies from the same place, and picks up where a colleague left off. Nothing slips through the cracks when you are out on a job.

## Giving someone access

Access is set on the number itself, so you choose exactly who covers each line.

1. **Open the number.** Go to **Settings**, then **Phone numbers**, and open the number you want to share.
2. **Go to the Users tab.** This is where everyone with access to that inbox is listed.
3. **Add users.** Click **Add users**, search your team with **Search members...**, and pick the people you want. Anyone already on the number shows as **Added**.
4. **Confirm.** They will now see this inbox in their own sidebar, alongside their other conversations, and can start handling its calls and texts.

Each person on a shared number can set their own notification preferences for it, so you are not all buzzing at once unless you want to be.

For the full walkthrough, including how to remove someone, see [Who can use a number](/phone-numbers/inbox-users).

## Who sees what

Access is decided per number, so it helps to know how it works:

* The **owner** of the workspace sees every inbox automatically.
* Everyone else, including admins, only sees the inboxes they have been added to.

So if a colleague cannot see a number, it usually just means they have not been added to it yet. Add them under the **Users** tab and it will appear for them.

## Ringing the whole team

When a call comes in, you can have it ring everyone who covers the number at once, so the first free person answers.

In a [call flow](/calling/call-flows), the **Ring user** step can ring **everyone in this inbox**, which means every person you have given access to. Whoever picks up first gets the call.

<Note>
Removing someone from a number only affects that inbox. They stay in your workspace and keep any other numbers they are on. See [Members](/admin/members).
