# Business hours

> Set the hours a number is open, so calls are handled differently in and out of hours.

Business hours tell Dialbird when you're open on a particular number. Once they're set, your call flows can treat an out-of-hours call differently from one that comes in while you're working, so a customer ringing at 10pm hears the right thing instead of ringing out.

Business hours are set **per number**. Go to **Settings**, then **Phone numbers**, open the number, and choose the **Availability** tab.

## Turning business hours on

1. On the **Availability** tab, turn on **Enable business hours for this phone number**.
2. Click **Edit schedule**.
3. Set your **time zone**. This is the time zone the hours are judged against, so make sure it's the one you actually work in.
4. Choose a **schedule**:
   * **Every day** uses the same hours seven days a week.
   * **Weekdays** uses the same hours Monday to Friday, with weekends closed.
   * **Custom** lets you set a different start and finish time for each day.
5. Save.

The summary shows your **Schedule**, **Working hours** and **Timezone** at a glance.

<Warning>
  Turning business hours on here does not, on its own, add a business-hours step to your call flow. If a call flow has no **Business hours** step, every call is treated as if you're open. To actually branch calls on open versus closed, add a **Business hours** step to the flow. See [Call flows](/calling/call-flows).
</Warning>

<Note>
  **Needs checking:** confirm whether you can add one-off holiday dates that override the weekly schedule (for example, closed on a bank holiday).
