# Texting other countries

> Which countries you can text, why it's different from calling, and what happens when one is off limits.

Dialbird only lets you text certain countries, and the list for texting is **shorter** than the list for calling. This page covers which countries you can reach and what you will see if one is off limits.

## Countries you can text

Where you can text depends on where your business is based:

| If your business is in | You can text      |
| ---------------------- | ----------------- |
| The UK                 | The UK only       |
| The US                 | The US and Canada |
| Canada                 | The US and Canada |

This is an allow list, not a block list. Any country that is not in your row is blocked, including countries Dialbird does not support at all. Dialbird works out the destination country from the number you are texting.

<Warning>
  Texting and calling are **not the same**. A UK business can **call** the US and Canada, but can only **text** the UK. So you might be able to ring a US customer and still not be able to text them.

## What you'll see

If you try to text a number Dialbird cannot reach, it will not send, and you will be told:

> Your workspace can't send messages to this country.

You will also see a warning as you type the number into the **To:** box, before you have even written the message, so you find out early rather than after typing everything out.
