# Overview

> What an inbox is, and how your calls and texts are organised.

In Dialbird, an **inbox is a phone number**. Every number you have shows up in the left-hand sidebar under **Inboxes**, and everything to and from that number, calls and texts alike, lives inside it. So each inbox is a tidy home for one line, keeping its conversations separate from the rest.

If you've got a mobile and a landline, that's two inboxes. Click between them in the sidebar to switch from one to the other.

## Chats and Calls

At the top of an inbox there are two tabs:

* **Chats**: your text conversations, one row per person, newest at the top.
* **Calls**: your call history, one row per call. See [Call history](/inboxes/call-views).

Next to the tabs are two quick buttons: a **phone** icon to start a new call, and a **message** icon to start a new chat.

## What a chat row shows you

Each conversation on the **Chats** tab packs a lot into one row:

* The person's **name** (or their number if they're not saved).
* A small preview of the **last message**, with a phone icon if it was a call.
* A **pin** if it's pinned, a red icon if it's **blocked**, and a grey tick if it's **closed**.
* Little **avatars** of the teammates involved in the conversation.
* A **purple badge** with a count of unread messages (it shows **9+** once there are more than nine).

## Getting around

A few things make an inbox quicker to work with:

* A **purple number** on an inbox in the sidebar shows how many unread messages it has.
* Hover an inbox and click the **⋯** to **Manage inbox**, **Add user**, **Copy number**, **Mute** it, or **Pin inbox** to keep it at the top.
* **Drag** inboxes up and down by the handle to reorder them.
* You can **drag the edge** of the conversation list to make it wider or narrower.
