# Open and closed

> Mark a conversation as done, and reopen it if they reply.

Every conversation is either **Open** or **Closed**, and new ones start Open. Think of Closed as "dealt with": the job's booked, the question's answered, you're done. It's a simple way to clear finished chats out of the way while keeping them around in case you need them again.

## Closing one

To mark a conversation done, right-click it, or use the **⋮** menu at the top of the chat, and choose **Mark as closed**. A small grey tick appears next to its name in the list.

To close a batch at once, select several conversations and choose **Close conversations** from the bottom bar. See [Conversations](/inboxes/conversations).

## Reopening one

Open the same menu and it now says **Reopen conversation**, which brings the chat back to Open. (For a batch, the bottom bar offers **Open conversations**.)

If a closed conversation gets a new message, you'll see it come back as unread, so a reply never slips past you.

## Seeing only open or only closed

Use the funnel at the top of your chat list to show just **Open** or just **Closed** conversations. See [Filters](/inboxes/inbox-filters).
