If you don't have a business tax ID but you do have a **US or Canadian address and mobile number**, you can register as a **sole proprietor**. It's a lighter version, made for one-person businesses. The monthly fee is a little higher than the registered-business route (\*\*$2 a month** rather than $1.50), and the one-time setup fee is the same **\$19.50**. The form has **four steps**, with a progress bar and a **Save as draft** option so you can finish later. Here's what each step asks for. ## Step 1: Sole proprietor details You're the main point of contact for your business: * **First name** and **last name.** * **Contact job role** (optional). * **Business email.** This must be a proper email address with a valid domain, so don't use a disposable one. * **Business phone number.** The owner of this number gets a text to verify it, so use one you can receive messages on. ## Step 2: Business details Your business address and where you can be found online: * **Business address** (street), and an optional second line for a suite or unit. * **Country**, **city**, **region**, and **postcode.** The region and postcode labels change to match the country. * **Website.** This is required for sole proprietors. It can be a website, a business listing, or another online presence, but it must be live, publicly accessible, and clearly yours. A site that's under construction or behind a password will be rejected. ## Step 3: Campaign details About the texts you'll send. This route doesn't ask you to pick a use case, but it does ask for: * **Campaign name.** * **Campaign description** of what you'll text customers about (at least 20 characters). * **Message flow / how users opt in** (at least 20 characters). * **Message samples:** at least two example messages, with room for up to four. * **Terms of service URL** and **Privacy policy URL.** * Two tick boxes: whether your **messages will contain links**, and whether they'll **contain phone numbers.** ## Step 4: Confirm registration fees The last step confirms the charges and takes payment. These fees are set by the US carriers, and Dialbird passes them straight through: * **Carrier review and setup fees:** **\$19.50 one-time.** * **Messaging fee:** **\$2 a month.** Your card on file is shown, and you can **Change** it before you **Submit.** Submitting charges the card and sends your registration for review. Because there's no tax ID to check against, the phone number you give is verified by text, so use one you can receive messages on. ## After you submit Your registration goes to the carriers for review, and you can follow its status in the Trust Center.
