# Preferences

> Choose the microphone and speaker Dialbird uses, and set the hours you take calls and notifications.

Preferences covers two personal settings: the microphone and speaker Dialbird uses for calls, and the hours you're around to take them. Getting these set means you're heard clearly and you're only disturbed when you actually want to be. Like your Profile, these are yours alone, so everyone has a Preferences tab whatever their role.

Go to **Settings**, then **Preferences**.

## Audio settings

This is where you pick which **microphone** and **speaker** Dialbird uses, which is handy if you've got a headset plugged in as well as your laptop's built-in mic.

* Choose your **Microphone** from the dropdown. Underneath it there's a row of bars that light up green as you talk, so you can check Dialbird is picking up the right one.
* Choose your **Speaker** from its dropdown, then click **Test** to play a sound and make sure you're hearing it through the right device.

If you see **Microphone access not granted**, your browser is blocking the mic. Allow it for Dialbird in your browser settings and come back. Until you do, Dialbird can't manage your audio devices or make calls. There's more on this in [Dialbird can't hear you](/troubleshooting/mic-access-issues).

## Work schedule

This sets the hours you're around to take calls and get notifications, so Dialbird isn't ringing your phone at 9 in the evening on a Sunday.

1. Turn on **Enable work schedule**.
2. In the box that opens, click **Edit schedule**.
3. **Pick your time zone.**
4. **Choose a pattern:** Every day, Weekdays (Monday to Friday), or Custom.
5. For **Custom**, set your start and finish time for each day you want to be reachable, and switch off the days you don't.
6. **Save.**

A new schedule starts out at 9:00 to 17:00 on weekdays, so if that suits you there's very little to change. Your start time has to be earlier than your finish time, and Dialbird will let you know if a day is the wrong way round.

<Note>
  This is your **personal** schedule. It's different from a phone number's **business hours**, which decide how calls to that number are handled for the whole team.
